Dream Home | Love Orphanage
Land Purchased for Love Orphanage

A Journey of Resilience: Home is Where the Love Is

In 2011, Gabriel Fedelus founded Love Orphanage with a dream—to provide vulnerable children in Haiti with safety, education, and love. With nothing but vision and faith, he accepted a free rental space on a commercial street in Port-au-Prince. The small space was far from ideal, but it was a start. The makeshift space was vulnerable and in 2013, an unexpected eviction forced Love Orphanage to relocate—a costly and stressful move. By 2014, seeking a safer environment for the children, we moved again—this time to the safer, semi-rural suburb, Croix des Bouquets. Even then, our vision was clear: to someday build a permanent Dream Home—a true sanctuary with classrooms, a library, and space for our children to grow and thrive.

New House Foundation

That vision took shape in 2014 when an opportunity arose to purchase land in Croix des Bouquets. Thanks to an outpouring of generosity from donors like you, we secured the land and over the course of six years, built our Dream Home. Every brick, every beam, every room was a testament to hope. In December 2020, just in time for Christmas, the children moved into a home they could truly call their own and finally we could exhale.

Then, in July 2021, Haiti was shaken by the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. Political turmoil erupted, and gangs seized power, spreading violence from Port-au-Prince into Croix des Bouquets. The quiet refuge we worked so hard to build became gang central due to a key highway running through the town. Schools and businesses shut down, transportation became dangerous, and families fled to escape the risks.

We had a heartbreaking decision to make—stay and pray for safety, or relocate until the crisis subsides. The choice, though difficult, was clear: the children’s safety always comes first.
So in December 2022, we secured a rental home in a safe neighborhood in Port-au-Prince and relocated the children once again. This transition came with immense challenges. Paying for a rental while maintaining security at our Dream House is a heavy financial burden. Yet against the odds, we persist and remain committed to providing a safe haven for our children—because no matter where they are, Love Orphanage is their home.

We trust that Haiti will somehow find its way to peace and there will come a day when our family returns to their Dream Home. Until then, your generosity helps us keep the children safe, educated, and cared for during this challenge time.
